A workshop with its own looms
Carpetstory weaves in Jaipur. The craft is centuries old and the firm has practiced it since 2001. Every hand-knotted piece is tied by one artisan on an upright loom, knot by knot, over six to ten months.
If you are sourcing from Jaipur, ask whoever you are speaking to whether they own the loom. An agent takes the order, places it with whichever workshop is free, and the buyer never learns whose hands did the work. We name the construction, the material and the time before anything is warped.
What we manufacture
Hand-knotted rugs in New Zealand wool, with mulberry silk where a design calls for it. The colours come from madder, indigo and walnut in the atelier's own vats, dyed for the rug rather than picked from a stock shade card.
For programme work we also make hand-tufted and machine-made rugs, and we will say plainly which construction a brief actually needs. A hand-knotted piece lasts decades and can be repaired knot for knot, because there is no glue to fail. A tufted rug is faster and cheaper to make, and for some projects it is the right answer.
Custom sizes, and colour matched to RAL or Pantone
We weave to the dimensions of your floor rather than a catalogue grid, and we state the tolerances before we begin. The sizes most rooms call for, 8 by 10, 9 by 12 and 10 by 14 feet, are woven to order on the same looms as the bespoke pieces.
Send a RAL or Pantone reference and we match it on hand-dyed wool. No two natural dye lots are identical, so the tolerance is explained and agreed before you approve the sample.
How an order runs
Brief. You send dimensions, construction, palette and any drawings or references.
Quotation. Production options, pricing and lead times come back within one business day.
Approval. You sign off a technical sheet and a physical sample before weaving starts.
Weaving. The rug goes on the loom, with milestone updates while it is there.
Delivery. Door to door shipping from Delhi with full export documentation.

Most projects begin with the sample kit: four samples, each twelve inches square, woven to your specification. Two are hand-knotted and two tufted, and the first four are on us.
A hand-knotted rug spends six to ten months on the loom, depending on size and knot density. Tufted and machine-made programmes move considerably faster, and exact lead times come with your quotation.
Exporting from Jaipur

How do I tell a weaving workshop from a trading desk?
