This policy explains what personal data Carpetstory collects when you use carpetstory.one, write to us, request samples or order a rug, why we collect it, and the choices you have. What we collect
Information you give us: when you send an enquiry, open a trade account, request samples, use the estimate tool, subscribe to our letters or message us on WhatsApp, we receive what you enter: your name, email address, phone number, company, country, the project you describe and the samples you specify.
Information collected automatically: our hosting provider records server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested). Where enabled, Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity and Google Ads conversion tags record how visitors use the site: pages viewed, time on page, approximate location and the device used. These tools set cookies; see the cookies section.
Preferences stored in your browser: your language choice (a NEXT_LOCALE cookie), your shortlist of pieces and whether you have dismissed a message. These stay on your device.
If you buy a piece through our online shop, the order and payment are processed by Shopify and its payment providers under their own privacy terms; we receive your name, contact details, delivery address and order.
Why we use it
To answer your enquiry, weave and ship your samples or rug, prepare quotations and technical sheets, manage a trade account, send the letters you asked for, keep our records and accounts, protect the site from abuse, and understand which pages are useful so we can improve them. We do not sell personal data, and we do not send marketing to people who have not asked for it.
Legal basis
If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on performance of a contract (your enquiry, samples or order), our legitimate interest in running and improving the site, and your consent for marketing and non-essential cookies. In India we process personal data in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
Who we share it with
Service providers who process data for us: Vercel (hosting), Sanity (content), Resend (transactional email), Google and Microsoft (analytics and advertising measurement, where enabled), Shopify (online shop orders), our own customer records system hosted on Oracle Cloud in Mumbai, and the freight and courier companies that deliver samples and rugs. Each receives only what its task requires. We also share data where the law requires it.
International transfers
We are based in India. Some of the providers above process data in the United States or the European Union. Where data leaves the EU or UK we rely on the providers' standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.
How long we keep it
Enquiries and correspondence: three years after our last contact, so we can pick up a project where it left off. Orders, invoices and trade account records: as long as Indian tax and company law require. Analytics data: according to each tool's retention settings. You can ask us to delete your data sooner; see your rights below.
Cookies
Essential: the language cookie, and any cookie the shop needs to keep a basket. Analytics and advertising: Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity and Google Ads, where enabled, to measure visits and conversions. You can block or delete cookies in your browser, install Google's opt-out add-on, or use the consent controls where they appear. The site works without non-essential cookies.
Your rights
You may ask what personal data we hold about you, correct it, have it deleted, object to or restrict its use, receive a copy in a portable form, and withdraw consent at any time. Write to hello@carpetstory.one; we answer within 30 days. If you are in the EU or UK you may also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
The site is for adults and businesses. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Changes
We will post any change to this policy here with a new date. Significant changes will be announced on the site.
